Before you buy anything, check what you can get free
Your local council must give you a free needs assessment if you are struggling at home. Small aids such as grab rails, raised toilet seats and bath boards are often supplied free of charge, and larger adaptations such as a level-access shower may be covered by a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to ยฃ30,000 in England.
Many disability aids are also zero-rated for VAT if you have a long-term illness or disability โ ask the supplier before you pay.
