Check whether a walk-in bath company belongs to the industry trade association before you buy.
The BHTA is a not-for-profit trade association that describes itself as working to improve industry standards and consumer protection, with more than 400 accredited members bound by its Code of Practice. Members include bathing, mobility and stairlift companies. Its free "Find a member" search is a sensible first stop before you invite any company into your home — membership is not a guarantee, but it does give you a route to complain if things go wrong.
Before you commit
- Get a written quotation and never agree to a price on the doorstep or over the phone.
- Take your time. A genuine company will not pressure you with a "today only" discount.
- Ask a family member or friend to sit in on the visit if you can.
- Check whether you qualify for VAT relief, a council grant, or free equipment first.
- You normally have 14 days to cancel an order agreed at home or online, though bespoke fitted items can be an exception — get the cancellation terms in writing.
